Our skilled professional team is ready when you are! Emergency extractions are done as a last resort, since we prefer to save your teeth if possible. But sometimes an extraction is the best solution. Yes, there will be some pain. Yes, there will be some bleeding. But those will pass and you’ll feel much better soon!
What to Do Until your Dental Appointment
For a chipped or broken tooth, take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as acetaminophen. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water (don’t swallow!). If the broken tooth has a sharp or jagged edge, cover it with a piece of paraffin or sugarless chewing gum. That way, it will be shielded from cutting your tongue or the inside of your cheek. Eat soft foods and avoid using the affected tooth.
For toothache or sore wisdom teeth, try gentle flossing to see if the pain is caused by food particles trapped between the teeth. Molars are especially likely to have food stuck between them. Rinse and spit with warm salt water.
If you’ve lost a filling, a veneer or a crown, use denture adhesive to temporarily keep it in place until your appointment. Please, never use super glue! When the lost filling or crown is missing, and if the tooth is sensitive, use clove oil to ease the pain.
